If you're planning your event on behalf of a community or organisation, then you may find it useful to visit the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website page here. Most of their advice relates to the construction of marquees or temporary demountable structures,. However, there is some useful advice for event planners to indicate what steps should be taken to ensure that the duties of the organization are considered and all risks mitigated.

Types of Marquees

The main types of structures that are commonly used by reputable manufacturers are "Clear-Span" or "Traditional" marquees. All other things being equal, either structure is fine and the choice comes down to preference. That being said, no event is ever the same and so you might want to consider some of the considerations herewithin. The term Clear-Span, refers to the 'clear' uninterrupted space inside a marquee which 'spans' from columb to columb on the gable end (the width) of the marquee. The marquee is constructed to almost any length, so the width of your clearspan marquee will be the restriction with a larger width leading to an increased profile of aluminium beams, legs, rafters and inserts. Common sizes which we stock at Crown Marquee hire are 6m, 9m and 12m marquees on any length.
